Rick Sheppard’s Drifters is one of the most interesting tales in all of Pop and Soul History.

From 1966 to 1970, Rick Sheppard recorded as a Drifter and in fact Rick is the Last Living Member of That 1960’s Group who recorded on The Atlantic Records Corporation Label.

You know the songs which include “On Broadway,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Up On the Roof,” “This Magic Moment,” “There Goes My Baby” and many more. The songs are etched into the memories of music fans worldwide and helped form part of the foundation of contemporary popular music. What these songs have in common is that they are all the product of a veritable hit-making machine better known to their millions of DRIFTERS’ fans.

In the late 1960’s, the late George Treadwell, Manager of The Drifters was looking for someone to replace the late Rudy Lewis who was one of the lead singers of the Drifters. The late famous songwriter, Rose McCoy and the late owner of Bang Records, Bert Burns, called George Treadwell and was very persuasive in having him call Rick Sheppard. One evening in 1966. George Treadwell called Rick and asked him, “How would you like to become the new lead singer of The Drifters?” Rick thought the caller was a friend playing a joke on him, so he hung up.

The next morning Rose McCoy called Rick and asked him, did a guy named George Treadwell call you and ask you, “Would you like to become the next lead singer of the Drifters?” Rick replied yes, and hung up the phone on George Treadwell, thinking it was a joke. Rose replied, he is the Manager of The world Famous Drifters and he will call you back.

Fortunately, George Treadwell called back, assured Rick that he was indeed, the Manager of The Drifters and that the offer was genuine.

After a quick apology and three seconds to think it over, Rick said yes, and became a part of one of the greatest hit–makers in the history of contemporary popular music. As they say, “The Rest Is Rock’ n’ Roll History.”

RICK SHEPPARD’S DRIFTERS show is high energy and visually entertaining, mixing the classic repertoire that fans have come to know and love along with hits from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
